ΤΗΕ LEGEND OF ZELDA: FACES OF EVIL REVIEW

Well, I’ll be honest with you. I always wanted to play the “Zelda CDi” games. I was always intrigued of how many bad things were said about those games.

When I found out last week that there is a remastered version for them for the PC, I was thrilled. I literally, stopped working and started downloading those games on my laptop.

If someone wants to download them, here is the link you can visit (https://archive.org/details/foer-wogr-patched-12-9-20)

Before starting the review of the game I should mention what are some of the more important improvements that the remastered version of the games offer to the players.

1. More polished graphics

2. Better controls (You can use a pc or an xbox controller and configure the controls of the game).

3. Unlimited continues, making death less annoying than the original game.

4. A hintbox method you have on your controller, so you will never be misguided.

5. A hero’s mode that you can play after finishing the Quest in Normal mode.

Now let’s get into the review of “The Legend of Zelda: Faces of Evil” with the things I liked about the game:

1. It’s a typical sidescroller of that era of gaming with some Zelda influence,

2. The action part of the game is pretty good. There is not an easy fight against Ganon’s minions.

3. The level selection of the game is pretty decent. Looking into the map of Koridai and choosing your destination is a cool way of choosing a level in 1993 era.

4. The music of the game is great. I really recommend you checking it out.

5. The game is hard in parts, and with the new polished controllers, it’s not unfair. It’s just challenging. Although it’s not punishing, since you have unlimited continues.

6. There is a newly created hint method. By hitting a specific button on your controller, the wizard Gwonam will offer you some useful information about the area you are in.

Now let’s get to some things that weren’t that great:

1. Okay, that one is a given, but the story is pretty silly. Even though it tries to make me care about the island of Koridai and its people, in the end, the way things are presented are pretty stupid.

2. The game is REALLY short. I mean I completed it 100% at a blind playthrough (it was the first time I played it) in 80-90 minutes.

3. The bosses are awful and I mean that from the challenging part. Most of the bosses are 1-3 hits away from death and even Ganon is just a 1-hit boss. Anticlimactic as hell.

4. All cutscenes are cheesy, cringy and really mess up the whole feeling of playing a Zelda game.

In conclusion, does "Faces of Evil" worth your time? Well, depends on what you are looking for. If you want a typical Zelda quest, that can make you play for hours, with great landscapes, rich stories and sidestories, well this game is not for you. But if you want to relax after a hard day’s work by playing a casual game with some Zelda context, then you may enjoy yourself.

At the end of the game, my Quest Log was looking like:

6 Hearts

25 Deaths

Sword: Magic Sword Lv2

Shield: Mirror Shield

Items: Snowballs, Firestones, Ropes, Bombs, Power Glove, Bell, Latern of Vision, Winged Helmet, Latern Oil, Book of Koridai, Bottle

Treasure: Necklace, Grapple Berry, Crystal of Vision, Crystal of Reflection, Fire Diamond, Ice Crystal

Rupees: 240
