THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: THE CARTOON SERIES – GREAT IDEAS AND EXECUTIONS

We can all agree that the late ‘80s Legend of Zelda Cartoon, is cheesy and it has nothing to provide to the fans of today, since it was just a generic, Sunday morning cartoon, with lame script. Is this 100% correct though?

Yes the script is silly-written and the main villain, Ganon is the most stupid villain of all time, buuuut… it has some ideas that can be appreciated even today.

NUMBER 1 – The Music

The music of the Legend of Zelda cartoon series is great. It took the songs of the first two Zelda games (the only Zelda games that had been released when the cartoon aired) and orchestrated them in a great way, that I love to hear even today after 30 years. I urge you to watch an episode, and really focus on the music part, you will be amazed.

NUMBER 2 – The Magic Pouch

Every time you play a Zelda game, you think “Where does Link keep all these items? A bow, a hookshot, a hammer, a boomerang, a magic cane, even a freaking ball and chain”. The cartoon series has the answer. The Magic Pouch. This pouch is on everyone’s belt and it can miniaturize the items so they can be carried anywhere. Brilliant idea and explanation.

NUMBER 3 – The Monsters’ Art

Almost every enemy of the first two Zelda games appear in the cartoon series and to be honest, their artwork looks amazing for its time. Octoroks, Keese, Vires, Ropes, Armos even Lynels look great on the screen giving you a better view of that 8-bit enemy you fought on the NES titles.

NUMBER 4 – The Boss Battles

Leaving the Ganon fights aside (they suck, every single one of them), the battles against bosses are mostly nice looking. Gohma, Gleeok, Aquamentus, Dodongo are very well presented on the screen for the time they were produced. I enjoy almost every boss fight of that series.

I know that in the end of the day, these notes don’t make a huge difference on the overall score of the series but they can help you to enjoy the series a lot more easy.
